The quality of our services is valued by our clients, many of whom return to Biotext again and again.
Really useful! I will be applying everything I learnt immediately. It will definitely make me a better writer.
Great course. Fun, interactive and plenty that I will be able to apply to my writing (and editing).
Tim was fantastic throughout the entire process, very responsive to requests and edits, and nothing was an issue for Tim.
We’re very happy with the quality of the publication, and the senior executives are also very pleased.
Thanks for organising yesterday and could you also thank Kath again for a fun and stimulating training session – it was one of the more practical and useful training sessions I’ve done in a long time. The whole experience was made even better with the superb scones.
The infographics provided by Biotext have been really welcomed by our stakeholders, who often say ‘that’s exactly what we need’, when they see these simple graphical explanations of complex ideas!
It’s fantastic to do these courses – very useful for learning how to communicate clearly.
I have been preparing a discussion paper with a colleague over around 18 months. Because it wasn’t a paid project it was developed intermittently. This intermittent process combined with two authors with two different styles meant that the paper was not as clear or well expressed as we wanted.
After using Biotext on a previous project I thought that what the paper really needed was a good independent review both in terms of structure and style. The end result is something we are now both very happy with.
For our new start-up Beast Solutions, we were looking for striking and memorable branding that would be both modern and professional, but would also reflect the cheekiness that goes with the name Beast.
We were surprised at the number of great ideas that the Biotext team came up with. Any one of them would make a great company brand, and it was difficult to choose between them. In the end, we chose the bird logo because it said all the things we wanted to say about our new company. Biotext then helped us through choosing complementary fonts, colours and so on, and will shortly design our web site.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of the stuff I have learnt can be put into practice.
Fantastic trainer. Communicated effectively and didn’t rush or assume prior knowledge.
Thorough course content: covers very practical aspects of science writing that are easily applicable.
Very relevant, should be a “must take course” for regulatory scientists.
Material very applicable to certain types of work done at Health.
Kath was a great facilitator and the course was a good mix of different types of activities.
This course highlighted common errors and outdated writing styles – very helpful. [It] was relevant to all writing styles, particularly government.
This is one of the most useful courses I have ever attended. [It] should be provided to all graduates and new staff as well as to existing staff. (Public servant since 1991)
Our client said:
‘We could not have done this without you, so thanks.
Kylie, your editing was fantastic. It helped me to be able to focus on getting the message across without getting caught up in how to express it. And Hannah, it just looks beautiful. The best content in the world can’t get the message across unless it is clearly presented.’
The manual users said:
‘I want to congratulate you and Tony Isaacs on the revised FirstRate5 5.2.3 Manual. It is simply outstanding! It is clear, well laid out and very user friendly. Currently we are working with it while producing energy ratings on an apartment block and have found it to be invaluable.
Thank you for such a well thought out manual.’
Kylie did a great job in reviewing, streamlining and editing our report. She was very responsive and very fast, and gave honest advice and feedback, which was very helpful in designing a final report that would be useful to a range of audiences.
Biotext’s work stands out for its high-quality and professionalism. Aither has enjoyed a collaborative relationship with Biotext, and Biotext has consistently met our sometimes short deadlines on time and to budget. Biotext has been able to work flexibly and responsively to meet Aither’s unique needs as a small professional services firm.
Dr Irish was copyediting our textbook. She worked highly professionally, incredible quick and insightful. I can only recommend her!
The quality of work done by Biotext was high. The consultants were enthusiastic and fully engaged from the development of concepts and their adjustments to suit our needs, technical rewriting and editing of the text, assisting with arrangements for collection of relevant images to graphic design, layout and the delivery of the final fact sheets.
The consultants were professional, flexible and always willing to listen, discuss, give advice or make adjustments and hence great to work with. They were highly focussed on delivering a high quality final product which they did.
Perfect! Biotext was very efficient and accommodating in responding to comments and proofing. I have been particularly impressed with the speed and quality of the work. Given the material is a little obscure it was great to get the proofs back with such interested and informed input and amendments.
Perhaps the most rewarding effect has been that through Biotext’s feedback I have learnt to take a more critical eye to the written text infront of me and never again will I use the word ‘enhance’ without considerable reason or use the word ‘evidence’ without first running my Biotext filter to it! So thank you – as medical communicators it’s very important to maintain simple straightforward language to get our often complex messages across.
In my opinion you have done a terrific job in transforming a difficult document (very impressed with your service, happy to be a reference if needed).
I have to say that I was really pleased at still being able to ‘hear’ my own writing voice, but it appears much clearer and more succinct, and with a much better logic and structure to follow. Thanks again for all you efforts in helping us meet such tight deadlines with a quality product.
The course gave participants the skills and knowledge required to manage the production of a publication. It included a lot of discussion and allowed us time to think about how we do things at NBA and whether there are better ways to manage our processes. Hearing from an expert working in the field gave us confidence in the things that we were already doing well but also some structured approaches to help us improve our processes. It also helped us to understand the language used in the publication industry.
The course notes provided participants with checklists that we have adapted to suit our processes; these have been extremely helpful. For example, the sample checklists for briefing editors, designers and printers mean that our potential suppliers are clear on the scope of the task. This in turn means we now receive quotes that can be compared more easily. The quotes also more accurately reflect the work required and there is less ‘scope creep’ due to initial misunderstandings.
Another topic that was helpful was the information about how long each stage of the publishing process can take. This knowledge means that we can plan better; for example, starting the design process earlier and allowing realistic timeframes for each stage. During the day we also learnt tips on how to streamline the process. One example of this is in managing authors and not allowing the writing phase of the project to take so long at the expense of the rest of the project. Getting internal approvals is another point where delays can occur – knowing this can help us prepare for and manage this more effectively.
Overall, this was an excellent course that has really helped us to understand the language, tools and processes associated with publication.
My current role involves a significant amount of writing for different audiences and purposes. While I have received extensive training in my field through my university degrees, I have not previously received any formal training in writing skills. Before the Biotext course, I knew how to write but I was not writing in the most effective way to communicate my ideas clearly and succinctly.
The Biotext course provided me with examples of common features of science writing that can at times make it difficult for the reader to understand. Following this course, I was able to identify some of these features in my own writing and come up with ways to express myself differently. There is a lot of information in the one-day course and it can be difficult to take it all in. The course notes were helpful as a reference to go back to.
The follow-up service was also very useful. I submitted some samples of my own writing and the trainer identified specific examples in my writing where further improvements could be made. She identified some common issues and it was easy to see how focusing on these issues could significantly improve my writing.
Since completing the Biotext course and going through the follow-up service, my manager is much happier that my writing conveys my message clearly and is easy for the reader to understand.
During the early stages of editing I worked closely with Biotext staff to significantly improve sections of the text … Advice and assistance provided by Biotext staff was always helpful and timely. I had a rewarding and productive relationship with Biotext throughout the editing and production process.
Found working with Biotext very professional and turned around edits very quickly. Would definitely look to use Biotext for similar work in the future.
All Biotext staff operated in a professional and flexible manner. Biotext was able to manage additional tasks and manage very tight timeframes – this was greatly appreciated.
Biotext is a professional and expert group of scientific writers and editors and their contribution to this workshop material speaks for itself.
The convenience of having all of the editing, design and printing handled by the one company was great … this is an added advantage in choosing Biotext over other consultants/editors.
The consultant also value-added to the process by indicating where changes could be made to bring the format and presentation into line with recent changes in AUSVETPLAN.
I was very happy with the job that you did, coordinating the editor, indexer and proofreader under a tight timeframe to meet our deadline.
Biotext were very responsive to our request and submitted the work within the very tight deadlines and within the strict guidelines. We will be using Biotext and Kylie in particular again. The proposal summaries have always gone through a number of stages of editing here so I believe your work has saved us many hours.
We have had nothing but extremely good experiences working with Biotext to help edit and publish these international documents. Given the wide distribution of these documents and the importance of their content, professional editing and layout are critical for the successful application of these messages. We would like to thank you for your professional work. We wish you much success in the future and look forward to continued collaboration.
Thanks for your outstanding commitment and quality delivery – you cannot buy the outcome we created together.
I would like to thank Biotext for managing a very complex project with great understanding and flexibility. The scale of the project was not clearly conveyed (or understood) at the beginning and I was grateful that the editing services were able to accommodate an enlargement of the project scale, complexity and required tasks.
Biotext did not lose attention to detail or commitment to accuracy. In fact, Biotext’s rigour in constructing the re-presentation exposed several inadequacies in the original text and provided the basis for many improvements in meaning. In addition, Biotext was able to quickly make other enhancements (such as delivering the document in both HTML and PDF format), all of which helped deliver a high quality product.
Congratulations on the Water Made Clear brochure. It is both informative and easy to read. I think you have pitched it at the right level. It’s the sort of brochure I like to direct schools and the general public to – enough info to be worthwhile but without the really technical stuff.
Biotext was first rate in finding out and explaining the science of stem cell research – its aims and achievements – and the doubts and objections. They produced numerous drafts, working within a tight time frame. Their research was wide-ranging and punctilious. The editing and proof-reading were excellent.
Biotext did an excellent job. The writing was prompt and accurate and there was great value-add through providing comments and recommendations as to process and outcomes. I was very satisfied with the services provided.
Excellent value for money, professional and flexible, excellent designs.
Thanks for your adept editing, wonderful design and endless patience.
It was a pleasure to work with Lyndal (Biotext) as a partner and in the project. Involving Biotext early and throughout the content drafting stage resulted in greater accuracy and clarity of graphics, particularly scientific charts and graphs, than would have otherwise been possible. Lyndal was keen and willing to iterate with us on the way through the project, which meant the final phase of the project was smooth and trouble-free.
This publication definitely sets the highest bar in terms of how to use artwork in support of textual content. Examples are too numerous and self-evident to list, however at the highest level, the way in which chapter topics are initially presented (chapters differentiated by color tabs, 2-page photo spread, Key Findings, then Contents with associated photo tab, followed by quote tab) is just … too perfectly beautiful.
In terms of visual appeal, the delivery medium is perfectly designed, and could not be any more attractive or engaging – especially when considering the amount of information this publication was challenged to present.
Biotext edited and graphically designed and provided artwork for the draft and final versions of the NSW Murray Biodiversity Management Plan (Murray BMP). OEH were very pleased with the quality of editing and the graphic design standard and original artwork concepts for the Murray BMP – it stands out as something different from the usual government documents and is a pleasure to look at.
Once received, this report practically flew through clearance – thank you.
They did a great job at adding flow to the content provided by our Divisions. The consultant was wonderful to deal with – very prompt in her responses and offered a great external objective perspective.
The document produced was clear and well received by the audience, with key stakeholders praising the presentation.
The document is large, complex and technical and was created by a number of authors. The consultant was able to edit the document (re-arrange, streamline, give prominence to key messages, ensure consistency) in order to satisfy a diverse range of stakeholders, thus allowing approval from a range of government agencies and two ministerial councils.
Biotext did an excellent job weeding out inconsistencies and putting a professional touch on the document. The fast turn-around time was most appreciated.
Phenomenal quality … a masterful distillation of complex issues. Thank you for your extraordinary contributions to this paper and your commitment to high quality.
As usual, the work produced was excellent and the flexibility to undertake minor changes was very much appreciated. This is very good quality of work. I would like to congratulate Biotext for their patience, dedication and very high seriousness to produce a very high quality product.
This is an excellent document … written in a consistent and easily readable style … This document sets standards for guidelines. It was a pleasure to read.
Kylie efficiently documented presentations and comments from a day long summit including report backs from working groups. She synthesised all information into themes and posited recommendations. All of which was extremely accurate and helpful
Thanks for your excellent work, you have done a wonderful job and clearly been very attentive during the day.
Biotext provided timely, expert, comprehensive and thorough content for the development of the clinical trials website.
The service proved was timely, thorough with sound comments and a good understanding of the project and its objectives that helped provide constructive comments and advice.
Biotext synthesised the key findings from a large technical report and translated these into plain English for conveying clear and succinct messages to stakeholders.
The informational structure becomes more layered as each chapter unfolds. The information moves logically through each section, and the headings assist in driving that organisation. The guide gives clear status of the state of the Australian environment. Information was beautifully presented and easy to understand.
Just a quick note to say thank you to you both for all the time, assistance and help you have put into the publication of this manual. We are all very happy with the final product. It is exactly the type of manual we envisaged at the start of the project. I think Dorcas Homare summed up our feelings when she told me ‘I was so happy with the manual that I just kissed it’.
The editing done by Biotext was very comprehensive. The document did not require further editing. It was easy to read and much clearer than the unedited version.
This is one of the most beautiful and intelligently designed publications I have ever seen, and I feel privileged to have been given access to it.
The medical officer, who initiated the document edited by Biotext, has been very impressed by the outstanding quality of the work performed.
Writing style is exemplary and easily understandable at all levels. Wording is clear and concise, technical content is entirely accessible. The quality of the writing allowed for a broader target audience since jargon was removed or explained sufficiently to allow for a smooth reading.
What marks Biotext as different is your ability to be flexible and agile in the face of multiple (and constant) content author changes. My department has clearance challenges, just like many other agencies, and your ability to roll with the changes, even at the 11th hour, makes you a very valuable partner. Thank you.
Biotext is extremely professional, timely and thorough. The project [Implementation Status Report – a report on the implementation of AP2: a new climate change strategy and action plan for the Australian Capital Territory] was not an easy one given its contentious and complex nature. Biotext was understanding and accommodating of this fact.
Biotext helped us to produce a visually stunning and tightly edited booklet. They were patient in the face of many emails and requests (an unfortunate side-effect of many authors) and the graphic design concept devised by Kirsten and Lyndal has been received with many compliments. I couldn’t be happier. We would engage Biotext in any future projects without hesitation!

Biotext did the design and page layout of the 5th edition of our publication Your Home, as well as produce a promotional flyer and banner and a design concept for the website. We were very satisfied with the end result and we have had many positive comments about the book. Biotext were efficient in their work and very cooperative in addressing all the inevitable minor issues that came up in producing a detailed document.
My team of boffins struggled to insert the clarity that your layout/suggestions have introduced. I took a few notes on what our CE said, when comparing the versions that you edited and the ones we produced ourselves. ‘The new version is where we want to be heading. The revised layout is great. Much easier to understand the new layout. Much clearer than the other version’.
Once again Kylie and her colleague did a great job in summarising a full and at times ‘grey’ program. I think it really helped that Kylie had done the previous MedEd – she understood the issues/format/players really well, and that adds considerable value to the report. It is such a relief to get a very professional first draft in a timely manner.
