First published in 1902, the Australian pharmaceutical formulary and handbook: the everyday guide to pharmacy practice (APF) has helped pharmacists to counsel consumers on the safe and effective use of medicines, identify drug-related issues, make clinical judgments, and prepare extemporaneous products or modified oral formulations for more than a century.
The 24th edition of the handbook was released in January 2018, continuing the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA’s) long tradition of producing this invaluable resource. The PSA describes the handbook as being ‘for every single pharmacist’, as well as pharmacy students and interns. It is designed to assist professionals as an everyday guide to pharmacy practice.
From dispensing advice to consumers, to clinical monographs, the APF has evolved over the decades, its contents changing to reflect new medical insights and approaches in pharmacy. Regularly updated, the APF remains a constant in the professional landscape of Australian pharmacy.
