Skills: Darren is a specialist in physical and mathematical sciences, and is skilled in science writing, editing and proofreading. Through his research, he has also gained skills in computer programming, data analysis and presentation, technical document development using LaTeX, and assessing documents and data against a wide range of criteria.
Qualifications: Darren has an undergraduate degree in physics and mathematics (including statistics), a PhD in physics, and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing and Editing.
Experience: Darren has extensive experience as a working research scientist. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, been invited to speak at many national and international meetings, and successfully obtained competitive funding to support his research. He has written software for computational modelling of large sets of data, and managed a research group, including mentoring junior staff and building networks.
He has co-authored textbooks for high-school physics; and written, edited and proofread reports, online learning resources, grant applications, scientific papers and publications for many organisations, including the University of Antwerp, the International Union of Crystallography and the Australian National University.
Darren dislikes errant subscripts, incomplete references and badly presented equations. He likes getting complex technical documents right, LaTeX, and writing fiction.
